075 - God Told Me To (1976) & Holidays (2016) →

March 11, 2019 by Pod Sematary

CW: Suicide, Mass Shooting/Killing, Transphobia, Interphobia, Miscarriage, Rape, Abortion

It's St. Patrick's Day on Pod Sematary! That means Chris & Kelsey are going to once again find some flimsy connection to the Irish holiday!

The Classic Film: God Told Me To (1976)
"A New York detective investigates a series of murders committed by random New Yorkers who claim that 'God told them to.'" This classic, exploitation-style, 70s horror flick certainly goes some places, but will it really give you nightmares... forever?

The Modern Film: Holidays (2016)
"Holidays is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions, and assumptions." Will the hit-or-miss natures of these vignettes ruin the movie's chances of becoming an all-time anthology classic?

049 - Bloody Birthday (1981) & Happy Birthday (2016) →

September 10, 2018 by Pod Sematary

CW: Queerphobia, Sexual Assault, Rape

The Birthday Extravaganza continues on Pod Sematary! To celebrate Kelsey's birthday this week, the birthday-themed movies just keep coming!

First up is the forgotten 1981 classic, Bloody Birthday. Three kids are born during an eclipse by an eclipse (it makes sense, I promise) and shit goes downhill from there. This movie is simply balls-to-the-walls, unabashed murder-by-kid. Where were you people on this one? How have we never heard of this?!

Then, unfortunately, it's on to 2016's Happy Birthday... a movie that would have been derivative in the 90's and it has aged even worse. It still has promise in the form of music video-style direction, but that just can't make up for the punching-down, edge-lord humor.  It's too bad because Steven Tyler was a lot of fun.

Plus spoiler talk about Castle Rock episodes 8 ("Past Perfect") and 9 ("Henry Deaver")!

016 - Beetlejuice (1988) & The Sixth Sense (1999) →

January 22, 2018 by Pod Sematary in Best of 2018

Best of 2017/18 - #7 (Tied) Beetlejuice

Ok, now THIS is our longest episode. We promise to tone it down next time... but these are some seriously amazing films. This time on Pod Sematary, Chris & Kelsey dance to calypso while tackling one of the best comedy horror movies of all time: 1988's Beetlejuice. Then they move on to the eternally-spoiled The Sixth Sense from M. Night McTwistyflick in 1999. Stick it out 'cuz this is good stuff.
