191 - Campfire Tales (1997) & Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) →

June 21, 2021 by Pod Sematary

CW: Suicide, Bullying

It’s Scary Story Week on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey tell a bunch of unrelated scary stories and might have been dead THE ENTIRE TIME.

Read our afterthoughts for this episode here!

The Classic Film: Campfire Tales (1997)
"A group of teens entertain themselves by telling an anthology of famous urban legends with a modern twist; includes make-out-point, monsters, psychopaths, and ghosts” (IMDb.com). Campfire Tales is so forgettable, even the rights holders forgot to distribute it.

The Modern Film: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
"On Halloween 1968, Stella and her two friends meet a mysterious drifter, Ramón, and uncover a sinister notebook of stories” (CBS Films). Like the eponymous books, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a legitimately creepy genre installment for all ages and interests. But does that mean it's good?

165 - Tales From The Crypt (1972) & All the Creatures Were Stirring (2018) →

CW: Suicide, Child Molestation, Bullying

It’s Christmas Anthology Week on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey spend their Christmas in a series of spooky vignettes.

Read our afterthoughts for this episode here!

The Classic Film: Tales from the Crypt (1972)
"Five strangers get lost in a crypt and, after meeting the mysterious Crypt Keeper, receive visions of how they will die” (IMDb.com). A charming collection of EC Comics-style stories (including one about an escaped, psychopathic Santa), Tales from the Crypt is pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

The Modern Film: All the Creatures Were Stirring (2018)
"When an awkward date on Christmas Eve leads a couple into a strange theater, they're treated to a bizarre and frightening collection of Christmas stories, featuring a wide ensemble of characters doing their best to avoid the horrors of the holidays” (IMDb.com). Sometimes we watch a movie that's worse for how much promise it shows in an otherwise bad package. This is one of those times.

It’s New Year's on Pod Sematary! This week, Chris and Kelsey get trapped in a time loop and go DF!

The Classic Film: Bloody New Year (1987)
"Five shipwrecked English teenagers take refuge in an island hotel that is decorated for New Years. The problem is, it's early summer, and soon enough, even the walls themselves are striking out against them” (IMDb.com). Even the director gave up on this movie, and we can see why.

The Modern Film: New Year, New You (2018)
"A group of old friends gather for a girls' night on New Year's Eve. But as they begin to rehash old memories, many of the gripes they've been harboring manifest in murderous ways” (IMDb.com). Part of “Into the Dark,” a Hulu Original horror anthology series produced by Blumhouse, this New Year’s episode explores what can happen when alpha-female bullies become internet influencers.

“New Year, New You” (Into the Dark, S01E04) produced by Blumhouse Television
