One classic. One modern. All horror.

One couple talking about old and new horror movies, because of course.

141 - I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) & Revenge (2017) →

CW: Rape

Read our afterthoughts for this episode here!

It’s summertime on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey go on a tropical vacation just in time for hurricane season… oh, and there’s a killer fisherman there, too.

The Classic Film: I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
"The murderous fisherman with a hook is back to once again stalk the two surviving teens… who had left him for dead, as well as cause even more murder and mayhem, this time at a posh island resort” (IMDb.com). Don’t even bother with this garbage-town, blatant cash-grab of a sequel.

The Modern Film: Revenge (2017)
"Jen is enjoying a romantic getaway with her wealthy boyfriend, which is suddenly disrupted when his sleazy friends arrive for an unannounced hunting trip... culminating in a shocking act that leaves Jen left for dead... Jen survives and reemerges with a relentless, wrathful intent: revenge” (Shudder). Revenge is a very well-made film, with brilliant visuals and an inspiring theme, but is any of that worth actually sitting through it?

082 - Re-Animator (1985) & Beyond Re-Animator (2003) →

April 29, 2019 by Pod Sematary

CW: Sexual Assault, Rape, Drug Addiction/Overdose

It's Re-Animator Week on Pod Sematary as Chris and Kelsey watch the first and THIRD(!?) installments in the cult series! Shout out to listener Anthony for the recommendation!

The Classic Film: Re-Animator (1985)
"After an odd new medical student arrives on campus, a dedicated local and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue" (IMDb.com). This cult favorite based on a tale by celebrated (and awful!) author H.P. Lovecraft is full of awkward dialog and obvious effects work... and it's delightful!

The Modern Film: Beyond Re-Animator (2003)
When mad scientist Herbert West gets arrested for taking his re-animation experiments too far, young Dr. Howie Phillips demands a transfer to West's prison with the secret agenda of continuing his experiments! Is this a sequel in name only or does this third installment manage to honor the original in more ways than just casting its star?
